BE HAPPY?

Here’s some dialogue written for a future novel, dealing with a significant other being happy.

She asked him, “Don’t you want me to be happy?”

“Oh God, not that again. I explained that to you before. Okay, listen up, one more time. I am not here to make you happy. I was always all about helping you become the woman, the person God wants you to be. I can’t control who that is, but I can help you do that. And I can’t make you ’happy.’ The joy you find in life comes from the inside, not the outside. I expect if you told HIM about this, he wouldn’t get it, anymore than you do.“

Her disappointment was obvious. “Oh, I thought you could be happy for me.”

His frustration was rising right along with her disappointment. “Let me get this straight. You Expect me to be HAPPY about you ignoring what’s right for you, and doing crazy, stupid things, especially without me? How can I be happy about that? Like I said, I may learn to accept it’s the way things are, but I’ll never be happy about that. And don’t forget, I’m as possessive as I am protective. Both of those are screaming at me that you’re making a big mistake, and the biggest part is not being with me. You belong with me, Tara. But it’s your choice. I’ve always given you choices. Just remember, though, choices have consequences.”
