FRIDAY FEELINGS: IT’S DIFFERENT, AND THAT’S A GOOD THING
As an author, I find myself performing several different writing tasks. When those happen concurrently, the difference between them snaps into focus.
Right now, I’m writing the first draft of my fourth novel, LATENT HEARTS. It’s the exciting, creative phase, when new ideas and inspirations spring to life, blossoming like beautiful flowers. I use some and file away others for future use. It’s the most fun part of writing for me.
I’m also deep into editing—rewriting, actually—my third novel, HIS KIND OF MUSIC. That is a whole different side of being an author. I have to rethink everything I’ve done, especially in view of the many and sometimes harsh comments from my editor. Hard to accept at first, I see more and more this rewriting is a good and needful thing. But it is not easy, even painful much of the time. That’s okay. I’ve not had a great deal of external strife in my life, as many authors like Hemingway have had. So, my angst is internalized in the writing process, or rather the re-writing process.
My writing will be better for it, as will I myself. My only hope is that the final product will reflect my desires and hard work to make it as great a story as I see in my mind. That’s the trick, isn’t it?
