MONDAY: CLASSIC LOVE
My name is Richard and I'm a unapologetic sentimental romantic. (Hi, Richard!)
I don't think there are any recovery groups for die-hard romantics, those of us who still believe in love, romance, marriage, and other politically-incorrect notions. Not that I think I need recovering—or want it. My writing career is based on such "foolish" ideas.
Here is an old example below of at least some of those silly concepts. It is an iconic love scene from the legendary film, Casablanca. Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman were magic together on screen. So many classic quotes came from thIs film and even from this scene, overwhelming popular to the point of becoming cliches.
"If that plane leaves the ground and you're not with him, you'll regret it. Maybe not today. Maybe not tomorrow, but soon and for the rest of your life."
"We'll always have Paris."
"Here's looking at you, kid"
Great acting and great dialogue.
My only issue is with the ending. Yes, the hero and heroine have a happy ending, of sorts—just not with each other. Subsequent examples of the same unconventional romance ending are found in Bridges of Madison County and La La Land. The hero does "the right thing" in the end. And maybe part of me agrees with it. But most of me is screaming, "No, no, no!"
Hey, I started this post confessing I'm a die-hard, sentimental romantic. What did you expect? Enjoy the movie clip, love scene or not.
