MONDAY: MORE PHILOSOPHY
(Yes, it’s still Monday—barely.) Yesterday morning in church, I was thinking about being there, and the parallels to my writing. Yes, there are some, bear with me.
Being in church is in some ways the easy part of being a Christian. There you feel safe and comfortable with fellow believers, whatever you believe. You tend to be on your best behavior, out of reverence for God and being in His house.
Like going to church, the easy part of a relationship is when you’re together and things are going great. The hard part is when you don’t feel so comfortable, or safe, or glad to be with your significant other. That’s the measure of a relationship, how you respond to those situations.
Church, on Sunday morning or whenever, is the good time. But what about the rest of the week? I think myself that it’s the Monday-through-Saturday part of the week that is most important to my status as a believer. It’s not so “easy” or “safe” then. Likewise, when two people aren’t together geographically, or even just emotionally, that’s the true test of their relationship.
Sundays are great, probably my favorite part of the week. But being a believer, a Christian, is no doubt more about what happens the rest of the week. So, too, the strength of a relationship is shown perhaps best when things aren’t going well, or the two people aren’t even together. That’s what my stories show, when the critical parts of the story’s plot take place. I just hope both will show their best, in my faith and in my stories.
