FRIDAY FOR FUN: MORE THAN WORDS?

I may have posted something before about this song in the title above. If so, this will be a fresh take on the song and it's implications, both as a record and as romantic advice.

As for the song, "More Than Words," it was recorded by the group Extreme in 1991. Usually a funk metal group, this was a total departure from their usual musical fare. It went on to become an international success, #1 in the U.S. and top 10 in many countries. It proved to be a mixed blessing, since it gave the group much international publicity, but diverted the band from their preferred music. They grew sick of it and, for a time, stopped playing their only #1 hit in their concerts, despite the fans' overwhelming  desire to hear it.

The song itself take some analysis to decipher the real meaning. The key perhaps lies in these lyrics:

More than words

Is all you have to do to make it real

Then you wouldn't have to say that you love me

'Cause I'd already know

It's about doing more to prove love that just saying the words, which too often become automatic and cliché. I agree with the premise that love is a verb, and is about how you treat someone.

Here's the original video by Extreme's Gary Cherone and Nuno Bettencourt. Enjoy.
