MONDAY MUSINGS: FORGET ME NOT

When you're writing about second chance romances, this is one theme that's bound to come up. Memories are key elements in the plot. "Forget me not"—that's a sentiment that I can write about.

Someone else has already written about it. There was a hit song co-written and performed by Patrice Rushen in 1982 titled Forget Me Nots.  The title refers to a flower that since medieval times has been given and worn to symbolize enduring love despite absence or separation. The lyrics are from the point of view of one professing her longing for a rekindling with an ex-lover. She ruminates on the romance's end, and sends flowers to her lover as a reminder, for them both. The lyrics bear this out:

Sending you forget me nots, To help me to remember

Baby please forget me not, I want you to remember

Instead of linking to a video of the original performance, I've linked a cover video by a very talented young Russian singer and electric bass player (yes, you read that right) named Dasha Safronova. It's an impressive performance, adding to the song itself. Enjoy!
