WHEN SHE LOVED ME
The title for this post is also the title for a song from the Pixar movie, Toy Story 2. It’s a sad, nostalgic recollection of what it’s like for someone to love you, especially a love that is no more. It’s sung by Sarah McLachlan; they don’t get any better than her. And Randy Newman’s beautiful melody and melancholy lyrics touch everyone’s heart. I dare you not to get “misty” when you watch the video.
The reason I’m mentioning it here, not that there needs to be a reason for sharing such a beautiful song, is that the sentiment and words fit one of the stories I’m developing, tentative title SOMETHING MISSING. It’s about two young people who fell in love right after high school and continued all through college together. Then at the end of their senior year, Miranda, the heroine, is seriously hurt in a tragic train accident in Spain, where she’s on a study abroad program. She develops traumatic retrograde amnesia, wiping out all memory of the love of her life, Brian.
That’s where the song comes in. Brian remembers when she loved him, bittersweet memories of what used to be. The song lyrics fit perfectly the emotions of the story, which give Brian motivation to help Miranda recover her memories, or better yet, make new ones together.
Will they recover their relationship, or perhaps build a new one together? You’ll have to wait until I finish the novel and publish it. It will be either the third or fourth in the first series of mine, the Second Chance Romance series. RETURN TO RAINBOW RIDGE, released in the next couple of months, will be the first in the same series.
Enjoy the video. It’s hard not to get emotional when you watch it. I hope I can write a romance to do it justice.
