MONDAY MUSINGS: LOVE BOTH WAYS
Don’t worry, I’m still hard at it, writing my heart out. Its a bit of a struggle at the moment. There’s too much second guessing about the changes I’m making for my first book, Return to Rainbow , so I can get it released. I have gotten rid of about 1/3 of the content, with more to go, then I will have to figure out what to add back. This is a lot harder than I expected.
Meanwhile, life goes on. I still listen to YouTube videos, as entertainment and as inspiration. Sometimes one catches my attention, usually music of some kind, and in addition to appreciating the artistry of the performance, my mind automatically finds some relationship to my writing.
In this case the performance is a classic, usually associated with Bonnie Raitt. I saw her perform it last year in concert, so I know how great she does it. This time, though, the performer is someone else, a gentleman named Teddy Swims. The song is “I can’t Make You Love Me.” He does an amazing job with this ballad.
The song itself is one of sadness and desperation, grasping for final moments with an unrequited love. AS the lyrics say, “I can’t make you love me if you don’t.”
The take away I found this time is that in my stories, especially those of second chance romance, the love is not just one way. Both people feel it, even if they don’t realize it the first time around. that’s why there ends up being a second chance.
Some day I may write a story about this kind of one-way love. It’s just hard to imagine that situation, or the desire to promote it, no matter how real-world it may be. Love works both ways—it has to.
